Autumn gardens

It’s that time of year again – the nights are drawing in and the leaves are turning golden and starting to fall. Autumn is here. This turning point in the year brings about colourful changes in your garden and endless opportunities.

Acers

Autumnal garden borders are a great place to start. Flame red Acers will cut through much of the faded shrubs and cut back foliage. Rudbeckia  flowers between late summer and autumn, these daisy-like flowers provide a blaze of colour late into the year.

Asters (Little Carlow)

Asters (Little Carlow) flowers in late summer and autumn, bringing welcome late colour to borders with its vibrant, light purple flowers.

Colchicum ‘Waterlily’ – Autumn crocuses

Flowering in September and October, Autumn crocuses suddenly appear from bare earth without any leaves – hence the common name, naked ladies. Colchicum ‘Waterlily’ has striking, double flowers with pinkish purple petals.
